Concertos Concertos: list of recordings Sonatas Complete Piano Sonatas Diabelli Period instruments Rare Works

This section is not intended to be a review of existing CDs. Good critics have done this already, and are experts on the subject. I just wish to draw your attention to particular works and interpretations.
Title Beethoven's last pianoforte

This recording allows us to discover the 31st Piano Sonata, Opus 110, composed in 1821, and the 7 Bagatelles, Opus 126, composed in 1823-1824.

These works are performed on Beethoven's last pianoforte, by Jörg Demus. This is a Conrad Graf, that was loaned to Beethoven. It was not a present, as for other pianos.

Beethoven used this grand piano from january 1826. It is today at the Beethoven Haus Bonn.

If this pianoforte does not have the power nor the purety of modern pianos, its charm is not at all outdated. And one can listen and appreciate the quality of play of this pianist and the very delicate sounds of this piano...

Titre Sonatas and other works for fortepiano, by Trudelies Leonhardt

Cd Beethoven

Sonatas and other works for fortepiano
Volume 1
Cascavelle 2002

Trudelies Leonhardt has devoted her musical career to the Hammerklavier - the fortepiano.

She treats us with her fine playing: her instrument sings through the delicate mastery of the pianist.

A pleasure for the ear.

The first volume offers:
- Sonata in E flat major WoO 47-1;
- "For Elise", bagatelle in A minor, WoO 59;
- Sonata No. 5, in C minor, opus 10, no. 1;
- Piece for Piano in B flat major, WoO 60;
- Sonata no. 12, in A flat major, opus 26;
- Piece for piano in B minor, WoO 61.

On the menu for the second volume:
- Rondo opus 51 no. 1;
- Sonata no. 6, in F major, opus 10 no. 2;
- Fantasy in G minor, opus 77;
- Variations "Rule Britannia", WoO 79;
- Six Ecossaises, WoO 83;
- Sonata no. 27, in E minor, opus 90.

If you know little of Trudelies Leonhardt, you will profit from these two CDs which include some works less played than the sonatas, and which merits our attentive listening.

Titre Complete sonatas on period instruments

This complete set gathers seven pianists of many nationalities: Malcolm Bilson, Tom Beghin, David Breitman, Ursula Dütschler, Zvi Meniker, Bart van Oort and Andrew Willis.

They perform the sonatas of Beethoven on nine different forte pianos: five replicas of five octave pianos; a six ocatave piano by Salvatore Lagrassa from 1815; two six and a half octave pianos from 1830; and a replica of a six and a half octave Graf piano.

This set also includes the three sonatas of the young Beethoven: "Kurfursten". The Andante for piano in F major, the "Favori", WoO 57 also forms part of this collection.
